A fully illustrated catalogue for Carla Herrera-Prats’s project and exhibition Prep Materials, with an essay by Daniel Quiles and introduction by Eva Diaz. Prep Materials is drawn from archival research on the beginnings of now-ubiquitous standardized tests in the U.S. and the technology it takes to print, distribute, and score answer sheets for the tests. In 1934 three companies raced to patent the most effective solutions for all three stages, and the technology that resulted is the basis for ballot-counting machines and desktop scanners that we know today.
