Maria Rapicavoli (Italian, b. 1976) lives and works in New York. Rapicavoli’s work uses video and photography to explore questions around people’s conditions of alienation, invisibility, and displacement through a critique of the global economic and political system and the structures of power that generate it. She was a fellow in the Whitney ISP in 2012 and received her MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, London in 2005. Rapicavoli was granted the “NCTM e l’arte” award in Italy in 2013 and the “DE.MO/Movin’UP” grant in Italy in 2011. She won the Renaissance Award at the ICI in London in 2008. She has exhibited at Whitechapel Gallery, London; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; Smack Mellon, New York, Guest Projects, London; Palazzo Reale, Milan; Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, Museo D’arte Contemporanea della Sicilia, Palermo, among others.
