Horizon (Continued)
In conjunction with the exhibition HORIZON at Bloomberg headquarters, a selection of Paulus Kapteyn’s drawings are on display in Art in General 6th Floor Lobby Space.
For his poem entitled Molly, poet and visual artist Paulus Kapteyn creates an alter ego named Molly who, when left alone, reflects upon the post-industrial landscape of Jersey City. In her imagination, Molly has several characters with whom she has a bizarre and psychologically complex relationship. These include Cezanne, Matisse, Mali, John F. Kennedy, Condoleezza Rice, Captain America, and an Unknown Soldier, all of whom star in this mental journey. Aspects of post-war trauma, the general absence and disappearance of the hero-figure, and the irreversible death of a comic character, create a dense, melancholic atmosphere in Kapteyn’s poetry, which is accompanied by drawings and watercolors exhibited along his poem.
HORIZON is curated by 2007 Curatorial Fellow Jan Van Woensel, organized by Art in General and sponsored by Bloomberg.
