Constructed Painting

The six artists included in this exhibition extend the limits of the two-dimensional picture plane by creating wall reliefs, assemblages and shaped canvases. Mikyung Kim’s assemblages juxtapose natural and cultural references; Michel Daignealut’s works are composed of disparate elements that are free standing or attached to the wall; Michael Mulhern’s aluminum and bronze constructions play with illusionary space and feature monochromatic, painted surfaces; Richard Peck combines abstract imagery with found materials to create a dialogue between abstraction and representation; Linda Swanson uses painted Masonite surfaces; Hubert Taylor juxtaposes a shaped canvas with two painted plywood ovals.
