Kennel
Christina Bothwell
Kennel transforms the street level window into a cage that confines Christina Bothwell’s grotesque, yet playful dog sculptures. Bothwell says her sculptures, “represent the human element, cut off from nature and existing in close quarters, yet striving to retain spontaneity and creativity.” Bothwell began this project as a commentary on the infamous abuse suffered by dogs in puppy mills. The sculptures are made of a variety of materials including sewn and stuffed rubber, encaustic wax, and pigments poured over cast handmade paper and plaster.
