Persistence of Ritual No.2

Persistence of Ritual No.2 presents a satirical take on the history of poultry consumption from its early roots in 15th century Africa. This audio-video installation includes an African statue, humorously holding a number of fried chicken wings on its head. The artist Michael Bramwell has stated, “Originally valued as a symbol of fertility and pride, the chicken has come to symbolize within the African American community, an object of cultural continuity—connecting north to south, mother to daughter, and one generation to the next.”
