Documenting the Transition: Capital Offenses

Part of an ongoing project created by Peter Gillespie, Documenting the Transition: Capital Offenses presents a photographic installation that juxtaposes historical and contemporary urban imagery. The black and white historical images are taken from the Lawrence, Massachusetts textile strike of 1912, which was organized by the revolutionary union, the Wobblies. The contemporary color transparencies depict the gentrification of working class neighborhoods in New York City, such as Chinatown, the quickly developing community in which Art in General is based.
