Elevator Music

This audio installation created by Tom Burckhardt builds a circular melody from sampled Balinese Gamelan music layered over the actual sounds of the elevator bell. Identifying the elevator as the “live performer,” Burckhardt introduces an element of chance in his composition, while hinting at a, “melodic structure within the seemingly random notes.”
