Mémoire du Quotidien
Bernadette Chéné
Additional participants Marek Bartelik
Created by Bernadette Chéné, this installation features a large “flower-bed” comprised of tightly rolled newspapers. A number of dark suit jackets line the walls with copies of every newspaper available in New York that was published on April 1, 1997 placed in their pockets. With this installation Chéné considers the function of newspapers in regards to memory, history, and the fast-pace of urban life.
In conjunction with this residency, Art in General publishes a brochure with a text by Marek Bartelik. It can be downloaded here for free. For a printed version, purchase this publication along with the entire set of Art in General’s residency brochures in the online store for only $5.
