Firewater

Dan Mihaltianu uses aromas to evoke memories through the process of extracting alcohol from locally collected fruit, plants, and seeds. Using a distillation machine to bottle his scents, Mihaltianu has turned the gallery into a performative space that encourages discussion and viewer participation. The bottles are labeled with drawings, documents, newspapers, and photographs and are intended to evoke the cultural history of the United States.
