108exg699_4_lg_144_144Over the course of four months, ten artists and two writers engaged in a cross-cultural exchange by trading imaginary characters that they had created. Based in Mexico City and New York, the artists communicated the characters to each other through visual mementos such as videos, photographs, texts, paintings and drawings, correspondence, postcards, puzzles, webpages and phony business cards. These materials are on view, along with new work created by the characters in their final state.

108exg699_3_lg_144_144The first part of this project was held in Mexico City where artists from Mexico staged performances and visual presentations based on the New York characters. For the current exhibition at Art in General all ten artists will be united. Examples of the characters created include the first genetically engineered child, a recluse woman living in a monastery, a young Hollywood movie star, and a Morgan Stanly employee who has mysteriously disappeared.

A catalogue was also published on occasion of the exhibition.
