Internships + Volunteering

Art in General accomplishes as much as it does thanks to the assistance of many volunteers and interns. By working with the organization, they also have the opportunity of acquiring new skills in the arts and nonprofit fields through our internship program.

Additionally, a number of volunteers donate their time and acquire invaluable experience by supporting special events.

To apply for an internship, or to volunteer, please review the available positions below and send a resume and cover letter letting us know which you’re interested in. Please tell us about your skills, and let us know your available start date and hours. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and should be sent to Alison Dorfman at info@artingeneral.org.

Special Project: Performances by Bozena Koncic Badurina

Art in General is seeking volunteers for late March to participate in performances with our visiting Croatian artist, Bozena Koncic Badurina. Badurina is a performance artist whose participatory work explores the power structures of human relationships. Using pedestrian-like performers who interact with actual visitors to the space, her artworks question the role of the audience: what are the politics of viewing? Where does authority lie in complex viewer/viewed subject situations? What psychologies are implied by the roles of viewer and viewed subject and how do they translate into everyday interactions on the street? Badurina has performed and exhibited at such venues as The Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb; Max Art Fest; Art Pavilion; Ceremony Performance Festival; Moria Gallery; Exposure Gallery; and The Istrian Council Chamber, Poreč. This will be Badurina’s first exhibition in the United States.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work directly with the artist and Art in General Curatorial Staff to assist in the realization of these performances.

We are looking for volunteers who will be available for at least one of the following dates/times

Saturday, March 20, 11-6:30 pm

Saturday, March 27, 11-6:30 pm

Wednesday, March 31, 3-8:30 pm

Ideal candidates will be students, or recent graduates, with concentrations in the Performing Arts. Should be self-motivated, have an interest in the intersection of performing and visual arts, and should exhibit a high level of professionalism.

Volunteers will be asked to be available for the entire timeslot listed above on whichever day(s) they volunteer for. Additionally, the artist and Art in General will be holding rehearsal sessions the day before performances, so please let us know in your e-mail whether you are available for both the performance day and one to two hours the evening prior to the performance. While participation in the rehearsal is ideal, inability to attend the rehearsal will not disqualify you from participating.

Email your availability and contact info to nina@artingeneral.org. No telephone calls please.
