The Perception of Presence

For this installation, Carol Byard has created two groups of sculptural figures: the first is a group of mud soaked, canvas babies hung from the ceiling in playful poses; the second is a group of wood-carved torsos that resemble young black men. Byard’s installation is meant to convey a particular African American experience within the history of North America.
