Art in General and Bloomberg have partnered to create exhibition opportunities for artists at the corporation’s headquarters. Written in Light, featuring artists Iván Navarro, Lisi Raskin, Alyson Shotz, Trevor Stafford and Jude Tallichet, and guest curated by Art in General’s 2006-2007 Curatorial Fellow, Zeljka Himbele, is the third exhibition organized by Art in General and held at Bloomberg’s corridors. This exhibition is also part of Beyond Art in General, a news series of art projects taking place outside of Art in General’s facilities and engaging new audiences.
Exit (2006) by Iván Navarro
Four identical glass and aluminum doors are each placed between the four existing elevator doors of the hallway, each with a light source within the glass surface that creates the illusion of depth; specifically, the reflected light on the glass pictures a hallway beyond each of the doors.
Daydreaming (2006) by Trevor Stafford
Stafford’s artwork consists of a series of light-boxes attached to the ceiling, each of them with a photo-transparency image of the sky.
New York City Windows (2006) by Jude Tallichet
A series of six low-tech, animated-LED light boxes show landmark buildings in New York City buildings: “windows” in the windowless hallways.
Permanent Dusk (2006) by Lisi Raskin
A series of painterly diptychs pair delicate drawings with light-boxes, the latter installed within wall niches and flush with the walls, which she has covered with aluminum paper.
_Radiant (2006) by Alyson Shotz
An installation made of extremely thin and long rectangular plastic sticks laminated with iridescent paint, installed one after another, lean slightly against one of the hallway’s murals, opposite the elevator doors.
Written in Light is sponsored by Bloomberg LP.
