Creation /Dissipation is a performance/installation created by Sanford Biggers in collaboration with five Hungarian dancers during his residency.
As the artist describes: “We choreographed a fifteen minute ‘creation myth’ demonstrating the creation of the Earth and the elements, their harmonious interaction, their eventual discord and mutual destruction, and ultimately, their re-creation. The dancers performed a choreographed piece for 5 minutes on a stage (a mandala representing the Universe made of colored sand poured loosely on the floor), before improvising, battling, and destroying the stage. The performance concluded with the the dancers meeting back in unison while I appeared to create a new Universe of sand around them.”
This residency and exhibition are part of Art in General’s Eastern European Residency Exchange (EERE) gives artists an opportunity to create a new work in a new context, and to meet and interact with art communities in Eastern Europe and New York City. Sanford Biggers was nominated by Art in General to Trafó Gallery in Budapest, Hungary .
