During her residency at the Foundation Center for Contemporary Art in Prague, artist Karen Yasinsky creates and shoots a new, cell animation based on John Vigo’s seminal film l’Atalante (1934). In Prague, a city with a strong history in stop-motion animation, Yasinsky continues to explore the medium of short, animated movies and film-loop installations that she has been creating over the years, and begin experimenting with 35mm film in an entirely new context.
This residency and exhibition are part of Art in General’s Eastern European Residency Exchange (EERE) gives artists an opportunity to create a new work in a new context, and to meet and interact with art communities in Eastern Europe and New York City. Karen Yasinsky was nominated by the Foundation Center for Contemporary Art in Prague, Czech Republic.
