Featuring the work of 100 women from across the country, this exhibition focuses on the theme of ancestry. The works on exhibit take the form of boxes and incorporate materials as diverse as human hair, wire, cloth, bronze, encrusted earth, photography and collage. This exhibition was organized by COAST TO COAST, which is a national artist-run organization of women of color, who present and sponsor various programs dealing with cultural diversity. Ancestors Known and Unknown is the second exhibition sponsored by the organization, which was started by artist Faith Ringgold. Co-organized by Carole Byard and Clarissa Sligh, the exhibition will travel nationally.
