Magnetic Map

Lenore Malen

Magnetic Map is a three-part work that begins with a treasure hunt. Artist Lenore Malen has scattered magnets on buildings throughout Soho and Tribeca that have fragments of text written on them. The first contestant to find all the magnets and unscramble the proverb inscribed on them will win a gift made of 14-carat gold. An accompanying window installation at Art in General features a photograph of an upside-down man framed by glowing neon red lights; images of architectural sites dangle from strings that hang over an open book that contains the rules for the treasure hunt.
