Drawing on the legacy of Fluxus, the artists included in Looking For Mr. Fluxus: In the Footsteps of George Maciunas incorporate the spirit of Fluxus in their work and hail from New York and Lithuania, home of Fluxus founder George Maciunas. Organized on the occasion of Art in General’s 20th anniversary, this exhibition seeks to illuminate the physical proximity that Art in General shares with Fluxus; nearly 40 years ago the members of Fluxus ran a concert hall and warehouse on nearby Canal Street. In addition to the exhibition, original Fluxus members will perform Fluxus classics by George Brecht, Mieko Shiomi, Philip Corner, and Daniel Goode; public performances will also be held and include a concert featuring the work of Allison Knowles, Philip Corner, William Hellermann, James Tenney, and others. Grady Turner and Raimundas Malasauskas curated the exhibition.
