Cloud-Net is one part of a traveling exhibition of the work of Chilean-born artist and poet, Cecilia Vicuña. Site-specific installations will be exhibited at three venues: Art in General (New York), Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (Buffalo), and DiverseWorks Artspace (Houston). In each space, Vicuña responds to the site’s original use; in the case of Art in General the space was previously a hardware manufacturer. The installation consists of a room-sized web of spun alpaca wool as well as twenty-two small sculptures that are made from twigs, string, small bones, wire bits, a pencil and other earthly refuse. For ten days, Vicuña will weave the wool across various sites within and outside of the gallery, including the fire escapes, sweatshops, and streets in the area. In conjunction with the exhibition, Canto, an audio installation, will be played in the gallery elevator. A catalogue with essays by Surprik Angelini, Laura Hoptman, and David Levi Strauss was published.
