"This Site of Memory" A presentation by Andrea Geyer, followed by sightseeing
This program includes a visual and textual report by artist Andrea Geyer on her investigation of the life of Audrey Munson, who posed in the early 20th century for many of New York City’s public monuments. After Andrea’s presentation, the audience is invited to a sightseeing outing to have a unique, close-up view of Civic Fame, a statue that Audrey Munson posed for, and also the starting point of Andrea’s research and new project.
In this outing, led by curator Adam Kleinman, the group will have access to the roof of the Emigrant Savings Bank (49 Chambers Street), across from the Tweed Court House, about 200 feet tall, and directly facing the Municipal building. From this spot, you will experience a close and full frontal view of Civic Fame. The group will then cross the street one more time to go to the roof of the Municipal Building (1 Centre Street). From there, the side view of Civic Fame is only about 40 feet away.
This program is co-organized by Art in General, who commissioned Andrea’s artist book Audrey Munson (forthcoming), and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) as part of its Access Unrestricted program series.
