With a multidisciplinary practice spanning video, performance, watercolor, text and voiceovers, Julie Lequin’s offering for the A/V Elevator is an audio collage entitled Car Talk. Knitting together excerpts from the NPR show of the same name and her own fabricated responses, Car Talk presents a fictional conversation between the artist and the two radio icons, discussing her linguistic troubles, her Québécoise identity and life as a young contemporary artist. Interweaving personal history with fictionalized circumstances Lequin’s Car Talk deftly mixes humor with personal struggles while blurring the line between the artist as individual and the artist as self-consciously constructed persona.
