Pazmaker_chica_144_144Art in General hosts the production office of Perros Negros, a publishing and art collective that ordinarily operates out of Mexico City. Perros Negros will give a presentation about their current programming and events, as well as to launch the fall issue of their magazine Pazmaker. This event is organized by Art in General, and is part of Celebrate Mexico Now, a citywide festival of contemporary Mexican art and culture produced by CN Management.

Perros Negros is led by artists and curators: Agustina Ferreira, Adriana Lara and Fernando Mesta. Most of the projects by Perros Negros try to develop new links between the art field and other disciplines and society beyond the art world. Perros Negros thrives on generating new contexts for artistic practices and diverse modes of presentation, encompassing visual arts, performance, music and film.

For its founding project, in 2003, Perros Negros produced and organized Localismos, a one-month residency program resulting in the commissioning of site-specific projects in the historic center of Mexico City. Localismos was publicly presented as a two-month exhibition held at several locations throughout this city, including works by 30 artists from Mexico and abroad, as well as conferences and performances. Perros Negros projects scheduled for 2007-2008 include publishing a series of comprehensive artists’ books, opening a permanent exhibition and production space in Mexico City, as well as several exhibition projects abroad.

Perros Negros’ residency in New York is organized by Art in General and is part of Mexico Now, which presents the work of over 100 Mexican filmmakers, architects, writers, dance, theater, music, and visual artists at 28 of New York City’s leading arts venues in November 2004. Mexico Now is a project of Arts International, the nation’s only nonprofit organization solely devoted to international arts exchange. More information is available at Mexico Now.
