The Visionaries / A KÉPZELET ÉPÍTÉSZEI

Public Program
Mar 23, 2006–Apr 15, 2006

Michael Rakowitz will make himself available in public spaces around Budapest to collaborate with citizens in the creation of visionary architectural collages and models that address the many demolished buildings and empty lots created as a result of urban renewal projects in the VII District and elsewhere. In an effort to construct alternative visual possibilities that reach beyond the ideas of investors who are influencing the future of these sites, the dreams of citizens will be enlisted as a representational tool to ignite discussion and a critical perspective.

Rakowitz will be wearing a sandwich board that is derived from the temporary structures that display election campaign posters around the city. When removed from the body, the board transforms into a portable drafting studio, complete with supplies and seating. Participants are invited to meet the artist at one of several scheduled sites on the dates listed below, or they can make personal appointments ahead of time to meet at an agreed upon destination.

The results will be on display in Trafo as part of an exhibition opening on 14 April.
