As part of 1st Thursday Dumbo Gallery Walk, Art in General invites families with children ages 5 to 16 on a journey through the artwork of Kambui Olujimi. On Thursday, July 1, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm the space at 81 Front Street will be open to explore the last day of the exhibition Wayward North. Join us and participate in FREE “no-sew” quilting and book making art programs. No preregistration is required. Participants will be able to take part in the activities on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Organization:
Art in General is a nonprofit organization that assists artists with the production and presentation of new work. It changes in response to the needs of artists and informs and engages the public about their work.

The Exhibition:
The central component of Olujimi’s exhibition is a series of twelve 20 by 10 foot tapestries, each embroidered by the artist with constellations of fine thread and rhinestones, composing a narrative of contemporary “star maps.” With this work, Olujimi explores questions of how ancient legends function in the homes of contemporary society and whether mythology can extend community without conquest. Upon encountering this work, viewers will be invited to take part in a mythology of the present, explaining our world as it is, was, and as we hope for it to be.

Please note: this event takes place at an off site location, 81 Front Street, Brooklyn NY in Dumbo. Take the A train to High Street or the F Train to York Street, just one stop from Manhattan.
