Performance by Sharon Hayes at UBS, and upcoming performance by Darren O’Donnell.

Sep 28, 2007

Last week, as part of 25 Years Later: Welcome to Art in General, visual artist Sharon Hayes staged her new performance Everything Else Has Failed! Don’t You Think It’s Time for Love?, in which she read in public a different love letter every day. Read about Sharon’s performance at In Search of the Miraculous, a blog by New York-based art critic Brian Sholis.

We are now preparing for a new performance, Haircuts by Children, by artist, playwright and theater director Darren O’Donnell of the Mammalian Diving Reflex. This project is a simple and whimsical performance that playfully engages with the enfranchisement of children, trust in the younger generations and the thrills and chills of vanity. Art in General invited Darren to its Artist Residency Program to develop Haircuts by Children in New York, which will be co-presented with PERFORMA07, and will involve children studying at MS131, Dr. Sun Yat-sen Middle School in Chinatown in New York. Together, we will work with a number of children between the ages of eight and twelve to offer the public free haircuts by children in popular hair salons in Art in General’s neighborhood. These will take place on Saturday November 3, 11am-4pm at “2 in 1 Hair Salon” and Saturday November 10 from 11am-6pm at “Hair 2 Stay.”
