Art in General accomplishes as much as it does thanks to the assistance of many volunteers and interns. By working with the organization, they also have the opportunity of acquiring new skills in the arts and nonprofit fields through our internship program. Additionally, a number of volunteers donate their time and acquire invaluable experience by supporting special events. Design Internship

We are looking for a talented intern to help with the design of a book series for Art in General’s Artist Commissions projects. We are looking for someone 2-3 days a week, but days and hours are flexible. The intern’s main responsibilities will be in helping to execute the design for the books, as well as providing creative input. The intern should have a strong sense of typography, typesetting and layout, be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and some experience with image correction.

Curatorial Internship

Overview: Art in General is looking for a curatorial intern to assist in the production and installation of exhibitions, and development of publications; conduct curatorial research, and assist with the planning of current and upcoming program initiatives. The right match for this position will be a highly motivated, intelligent individual with strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, ability to manage time efficiently, and handle several projects simultaneously. A professional phone manner, a sense of humor, and an interest and/or knowledge of contemporary art and its concepts are also important. In exchange for their work interns will gain valuable experience in a dynamic nonprofit arts environment.

This is an unpaid internship, but can be arranged for school credit. We require at least two days a week for one semester, though we prefer a two-semester commitment. Hours and days are negotiable. Ideally able to commit 12 hours/week.

Requirements:

  • Strong oral, written, organizational, and inter-personal communications skills
  • Ability to manage time efficiently
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and its concepts
  • Skilled in doing research, creating bibliographies, and writing letters
  • Computer proficiency is a must, particularly experience with Microsoft Office; Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro
  • Installation skills (painting, wood construction, av experience) a plus!

We are looking for individuals that have the interest and ability to work closely with artists on production, and to negotiate with collaborators, vendors, and other individuals.

General Tasks:

  • Assist in the daily set up and maintenance of the gallery
  • Assist with exhibition installation and production of new work for exhibitions
  • Assist in the coordination of special events, such as opening receptions, public programs, performances, film screenings, panel discussions, and tours
  • Assist with daily filing, research and correspondence in the Curatorial Department
  • Assist with publication related tasks: rights and reproduction, image editing, text and copy edits, and distribution
  • Keep press and mailing lists up to date
  • Website updates
  • Track press and blog coverage of past, current, and upcoming exhibiting artists.
  • Assist with social media and blog program
  • Assist the Curator with general institutional visibility and community outreach

Development Internship

Art in General is looking for 1-2 Development Intern(s) to assist in the organization’s active Development Department. This is a great opportunity for those interested in arts administration, grant writing and special events.

General Tasks:
• Assist in the planning and implementation of fundraising events
• Conduct prospect research
• Assist with maintenance of the Donor Perfect fundraising database, including maintaining accounts for major donors
• Process limited edition sales and keep ongoing inventory of limited edition pieces
• Assist with departmental mailings
• Prepare Art in General promotional packets for potential funders, corporate sponsors and patrons purchasing limited editions
• Assist with the installation/deinstallation and sales at art fairs
• Assist with developing marketing plans to promote membership and events
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements: Time commitment is 2 days per week, but days of the week are flexible. The supervisor’s schedule is 11:00-6:00 M- Friday. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus.
